JR [Jean René] (1983-) is a brilliantly funny French photographer and street artist with a political vision who describes himself as a “photograffeur” or an “urban artivist.” Like a graffiti artist, his work is a form of appropriation of the built environment, but JR operates very differently, by pasting giant black-and-white photographic images on public buildings. For him, the street is “the largest art gallery in the world.” Often of a guerilla nature, JR’s work challenges the reductive images propagated by advertising and the media.

Come and see the stunning production of this unusual artist that critics have dubbed “the Cartier-Bresson of the 21st Century.”
