In 1988, novelist and screenwriter Patrick Modiano stumbled across a “Missing Person” ad placed in 1944,during the Nazi occupation of France in the personal columns of the daily Paris Soir: A fifteen-year old Jewish girl, Dora Bruder, had run away from a Catholic

boarding school hiding her identity. For the next ten years, the author obsessively investigated Dora’s disappearance. Painstakingly retrieving her parents’ names and place of origin, reconstructing the young girl’s story. The result, both memoir and memorial, is no doubt the most moving book from the Nobel Prize laureate. But besides Dora, who are the other women that played a part in the author’s life? Come and see how they relate to the writer and to his austere and enigmatic novels.
